Little Italy – Preston St. – cj fleury Public Art “Postcards from the Piazza’s” 2012

I love visiting Little Italy in Ottawa. The #2 O-train Carling stop (when it is running, or the #2 bus when it isn’t) lets you off near the welcoming arch at Preston and Carling. Or a lovely bicycle path ride along the canal from either Parliament or Carleton University joining at Dows lake will also bring you there. With year-round twinkle lights in the trees, it is a walkable place with lots to see and do as well as plaque hunt.

A recent interview done in October 2020 by Apt613.ca described cj fleury as a multimedia artist and a cultural researcher who focuses on combining people and public art together with many other installations throughout the city. In their 2012 creation of the “Postcards from the Piazza’s” cj fleury worked with the local Italian-Canadian community and collected their history, symbols, and sayings and preserved them as scuptures along Preston street.

With the help of Google Mymaps I am creating a map indicating the locations of the plaques, statues, and cornerstones I have found. I am slowly updating it at the following link: https://www.google.ca/maps/d/u/3/edit?mid=1Yt6tJaDfBwwCG9kDueModU9w-08pfOrz&usp=sharing

All of the sculptures that I have found of cj fleury are available to view. There should be 15 but I have only found 10.
